Launch of Sophie Prize-winner 2012 on March 21st

The winner of this year’s Sophie Prize will be launched on March 21st at 10.00.

This is the 15th time it is awarded to people who work for a more sustainable future.

The Sophie Prize is an international award (US $ 100,000), for environment and sustainable development, awarded annually. The Prize was established in 1997 by the Norwegian author Jostein Gaarder and his wife Siri Dannevig.

Among the previous winners is Nobel Peace Prize-winner Wangari Maathai, the former Prime Minister of Sweden, Göran Persson, the American climate scientist James E. Hansen and Brazil’s former Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva.

Last year’s Sophie Prize winner was the British activist and writer, Tristram Stuart, for his fight against food waste.
